It’s that time of year, holiday parties, baking, friends, and family! For the next few posts, we’ll be focusing on giving you tips to keep your holiday season happy and healthy!
During special events, people tend to consume an excessive amount of calories! Let’s talk about some things you can do to help ensure you aren’t caught in the cycle of overeating, but still enjoying yourself when you are out! Here are 5 tips for healthier holiday parties:
1. Eat before you arrive!
2. Heading to a potluck? Opt to bring a salad or some type of veggie as this is often overlooked. Check out this article on warm winter-inspired salads!
3. Remember portion control when serving a plate, especially when it comes to carbs. Load your plate up with veggies, protein, healthy fats, and limit how much of your plate is actually mashed potatoes, dressing/stuffing, rolls, etc.
4. Drinking alcohol? Not a problem, try sticking to low-calorie mixers such as tonic water or club soda. Mixed drinks are loaded with calories, so if possible also try drinking on the rocks or diluting.
5. Don’t skip the water! Research has shown that drinking water before or even with a meal can reduce our ability to overeat!
Cheers to a Healthy, Happy & Safe Holiday Season,
